Into the flood again....

But before I even consider resetting everything, I need to come up with some sort of awesome plot to keep the RP going and keep us away from doing the usual relationship crap. (I'm actually getting tired of RPs, cuz it's the SAME THING OVER AND OVER but with different characters. -_- )
Whilst on BP the other day, I was perusing the older RPs (Mansion/Brawl's Arch) and remembering other ones (BT/Eden and HS), and I think the only thing that was really missing from the current RPs is that the pairings actually did things in those older RPs (I think this has a lot to do with the amount of characters as previously mentioned, but I'll get back to that later).
For example, if someone starts up a pairing interaction, after the initial meeting and talking part, once they actually "pair", it basically becomes the same thing over and over again, no matter who's involved.
In those old RPs, there were always a ton of subplots that usually had somthing to do with the characters paired together. Like I remember in HS there was a girl who was a ghost and she needed swords to get her body back, but then she lost her memory of what happened as a ghost, etc. (my memory is foggy since I didn't directly take part in it). It had basically nothing to do with the main plot in HS, but it was enjoyable to watch and I'd imagine enjoyable to RP in as well. Likewise, I can remember having wacky adventures and fighting monsters and crazy stuff with my characters that were paired up. In Mansion there was stuff like that too.
Now it just seems like characters are picked just to be paired up with no intention otherwise. Whether this is anyone's fault in particular or everyone's fault, I'm not sure, but I think that could be a major problem.
And the completely idea or story driven RPs also have a history of not working out as they were intnded/at all. Looking back at another old RP, the BP HS died when the story actually started gaining momentum. By that point, it might have been because of how many characters people had.
So I guess what I'm getting at is that I'm not at all against having people pair up, but I think the way its done should be looked at and changed up a bit. I remember really enjoying having thinking up new subplots for my characters to take part in in the older RPs, even if it was just between myself and one other RPer. I think, if we had maybe 2 or 3 different RPs, with like a 5 character limit things would work out well. It would be easier for people to focus on all their characters rather than shuffle through a ton of them, and the interactions will be richer and more enjoyable as a whole, regardless of whether there's a great story/idea in the RP or not.
